NV Film

NV Film Viewing Angle Compensator Film for Polarizers

Solves the "remaining problem" of LCDs

NV Film is a "positive C" type retarder that possesses liquid crystalline polymers in a homeotropic structure where the polymers are aligned perpendicular to the film. The film improves the viewing-angle performance of polarizers related to their spatial arrangement, which is a problem with conventional IPS (In-Plane-Switching) LCDs or VA (Vertically-Aligned) LCDs. This film is quite different from normal optical films since it does not improve the liquid crystal cells but improves the polarizer laminated to the cells. This film can be effective for every type LCD.

The viewing angle problem of polarizer

Polarizers viewed head-on with their axes at 90 degree angles brings out the black state. However, they become gray when looked at from a skewed angle since the effective angles of the axes differs from the steric (or dimensional) influence.

Structure

Features

Optical characteristics

* Wider viewing angle

* Well suppress the color shift

Reliability

* 85°C dry, 60°C at 90% RH x 500 hrs OK (NOC test)

* Will pass various kinds of heat and humidity cyclic tests required for mobile devices.

Thickness

* 13 microns

* Possible to keep the thickness of LCDs the same as that without an NV film by a carefully designing a combination of retarders and polarizers.
